Happy Halloween, ghosters and goblinitos!
It’s been a while since the last From the Writer’s Desk update to say the least…. Ya sorry to ghost… That whole YouTube-documentary thing… just took too much time and effort, and honey, I’m a writer not a film producer. It wasn’t inspiring for me. I tried it but I’m taking things back to my roots. Words. Colorful, spicy, words.
Since the last update back in February so much has happened! Cue visual montage.
Short version: It’s been exactly a year, and I’m still writing.
Long version: I traveled to 6 diff cities around the U.S. and 3 diff countries in Europe, pitched my book to an agent (an experience to say the least… more on that another day), Hurricane Harvey happened, I moved apartments which meant I got an office space, and took a course at Rice University on storytelling that completely transformed how I write and now taking a second course, so, I’m addicted clearly.
Sad version: I completely missed any and every deadline I set for myself to be done with the book. You can’t rush art.
BUT I’m close. Oh, so close. I have 4 chapters left to complete my first draft. That means I’ve officially left novella town and entered novel country with 65K+ words or around 20 chapters under my belt. It’s fair to say its a long process, longer than I imagined I could do it in. Client needs dictate my time too. I wish I could spend my days writing, but a girl has to pay bills – ya dig. Some of yall just hear excuses though but I’m not beating myself up just yet about the slow process. Slow and steady always wins the race, amore.
Status: so close, I can feel it
